What kind of wine is Passito di Noto DOC 2024 - Planeta (0.5l)

Passito di Noto DOC 2024 - Planeta (0.5l) is a naturally sweet wine, the result of the great Sicilian tradition of drying grapes. It is not a fortified wine like Marsala or Port, but owes its intensity and alcohol content (around 13-14% vol.) to the natural concentration of sugars in sun-dried grapes. It is an elegant Passito, modern in its approach but faithful to the spirit of southeastern Sicily.

Vintage details

The 2024 vintage in Sicily was characterized by a warm and breezy climate, ideal for the complete maturation of Moscato Bianco grapes. The harvest, performed by hand, preceded the natural drying phase, during which the grapes dehydrate, concentrating aromas and sugars. This production style gives the wine intense notes of ripe fruit and a sweetness balanced by a pleasant freshness.

Vinification and aging

No fortification is foreseen for Passito di Noto DOC 2024 - Planeta (0.5l): the sweetness derives exclusively from natural residual sugars. After crushing, fermentation takes place slowly in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, to preserve the floral and fruity aromas of the Moscato. A brief maturation in steel allows the wine to refine without losing vivacity and immediacy, making it harmonious and pleasantly drinkable even when young.

Tasting notes

Color

Visually, it presents a brilliant golden yellow with amber reflections, typical of great Sicilian Passitos. The brightness of the color anticipates the complexity and richness of the wine.

Nose

The bouquet is intense and enveloping: aromas of exotic fruit like mango and pineapple emerge, followed by notes of candied citrus, honey, and jasmine petals. With each glass, the aroma evolves with hints of dried apricot and orange peel.

Taste

On the palate, the wine is sweet but balanced, with a pleasant freshness that enhances its drinkability. The texture is soft and velvety, with a persistent finish that recalls ripe fruit and almond. It is a Passito that captivates with its balance and aromatic clarity.

  • Artisanal cream or honey ice creams

Served slightly chilled, around 12°C, it offers the best of its aroma and elegance.

Storage and aging: how to store Passito di Noto DOC 2024 - Planeta (0.5l)

Thanks to its sugar content and medium-high alcohol level, Passito di Noto DOC 2024 - Planeta (0.5l) has excellent storage capacity. It can be kept in the cellar for several years, improving in aromatic complexity. It is important to store it:

  • Horizontally, if sealed with a cork stopper
  • Away from direct light and temperature fluctuations
  • At a constant temperature between 12 and 16°C

Once opened, it retains its characteristics for a few days if kept in the refrigerator and tightly closed. Over time, the color will tend to take on more amber tones and honeyed notes will become more intense: a sign of the natural evolution of a great Sicilian Passito.
