What kind of wine is Sicilia Nero d’Avola DOC 'Plumbago' 2022 - Planeta
The Sicilia Nero d’Avola DOC 'Plumbago' 2022 - Planeta is an elegant red wine with a Mediterranean character, produced entirely from Nero d’Avola grapes, the most representative indigenous grape variety of Sicily. Its name is inspired by the plumbago flower, a plant with violet petals that grows wild around the baglio and vineyards of the Ulmo estate, in the municipality of Sambuca di Sicilia. This wine stands out for its balance between softness and structure: it is full, harmonious and immediately pleasant to taste, with a fruity profile and perfectly dosed wood that enhances its natural freshness.Vintage Details
The 2022 vintage in Sicily was characterized by a regular climate favorable to optimal grape ripening. Sunny days and slight temperature fluctuations between day and night allowed Nero d'Avola to develop an intense aromatic profile, with ripe red fruits and soft tannins. The result is a wine that fully expresses the typicality and generosity of the Sicilian territory.Winemaking and Aging
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected in the vineyard. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of around 25 °C to best preserve the aromatic heritage of the fruit. This is followed by a maceration (i.e., contact of the must with the skins) of about 10-14 days, which allows for the balanced extraction of color, structure, and tannins. The wine then matures for several months in second and third-pass French oak barriques, a refinement designed to soften and enhance the varietal characteristics of Nero d'Avola without overpowering them.Tasting Notes
Color
In the glass, it presents an intense purplish red, vibrant and deep, reminiscent of the flower from which it takes its name.Nose
On the nose, it is immediately inviting, with aromas of ripe plum, black cherry, and hints of blackberry, accompanied by delicate floral notes and light spicy nuances. The fruity component is generous and immediate, but never cloying.Taste
On the palate, it is soft and round, with an excellent balance between freshness and body. The tannins, i.e., the substances that give the wine its typical slightly dry sensation, are smooth and mature. The finish is persistent, with a pleasant fruity vein that invites another sip. What dishes to pair with Sicilia Nero d’Avola DOC 'Plumbago' 2022 - Planeta
