What kind of wine is Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 Balthazar - Il Poggione (wooden case)
The Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 Balthazar - Il Poggione (wooden case) is a great Tuscan red that represents one of the most authentic expressions of the Montalcino territory. Produced exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso grapes, selected from the historic vineyards of Tenuta Il Poggione, it is a wine of extraordinary elegance, balance, and aging potential. Its full and harmonious structure tells a story of tradition and expertise, typical of one of the appellation's most iconic estates. Each vintage consolidates the prestige of the Il Poggione brand, now internationally recognized as a synonym for consistent quality and territorial character.Vintage details
2019 is considered an excellent vintage for Brunello di Montalcino. The season alternated between warm, sunny months and well-distributed rainfall, allowing for slow and regular grape ripening. Cooler nighttime temperatures during the final harvest phase preserved aromas and acidity, giving the wine a fresh, deep profile capable of magnificent evolution over time.Winemaking and aging
At Tenuta Il Poggione, grape harvesting is strictly manual, with clusters selected directly in the vineyard. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, where the must ferments slowly to best express the varietal aromas of Sangiovese. This is followed by a long maceration on the skins – a phase in which the wine remains in contact with the solid parts to extract color and tannins – and an aging of approximately 36 months in large French oak barrels. The very long rest in wood softens the tannic texture and adds complexity to the bouquet.Tasting Notes
