What kind of wine is Spumante Metodo Classico Extra Brut 'Terzavia Cuvée VS' - Marco De Bartoli

The Spumante Metodo Classico Extra Brut 'Terzavia Cuvée VS' - Marco De Bartoli is a Sicilian excellence born in the Marsala area, in the heart of the province of Trapani. It is produced with Grillo grapes, an indigenous variety of the island, processed according to the Classic Method – which involves a second fermentation in the bottle, as is done for Champagnes. Its style is dry and complex, with a strong personality that combines Mediterranean savoriness with the typical finesse of great artisan sparkling wines.

Vintage details

The Grillo grapes used for the Terzavia Cuvée VS are harvested by hand, generally in the second half of August. The best vintages are characterized by warm and breezy days and cooler nights, conditions that allow for an excellent balance between sugars and acidity. The result is a base perfectly suited for sparkling wine production, capable of best expressing the territorial identity of Marsala.

Winemaking and aging

The winemaking follows a meticulous process: after the first fermentation, the wine rests on its lees for about a year. At the time of "tirage" – that is, the addition of sugars and yeasts to start the second fermentation in the bottle – fresh must and a portion of wines from different vintages, always from Grillo grapes, are added. What makes this sparkling wine unique is the addition of up to 20% of Vecchio Samperi, Marco De Bartoli's iconic oxidative wine, which gives depth and aromatic complexity. Aging then continues in the bottle for at least 30 months on the lees, a period that gives creaminess and evolved notes.

Tasting notes

Color

Visually, the Terzavia Cuvée VS presents a brilliant golden yellow color with amber reflections. The perlage is fine and persistent, a sign of long aging and a balanced secondary fermentation.

Nose

Complex and fascinating aromas emerge on the nose: notes of ripe citrus, bread crust, and dried fruit intertwine with mineral sensations and slight hints of honey and sea salt. It is a bouquet that tells the story of Sicily and its salty wind.

Taste

On the palate, it opens fresh and lively, with a sharp acidity that perfectly balances the full-bodied structure. The sip is dry, enveloping, with returns of yellow fruit and a long savory finish. The Extra Brut accentuates the expressive purity of the Grillo and leaves the mouth clean and ready for another taste.
