What kind of wine is Passito di Pantelleria DOC “Bukkuram Padre della Vigna” 2021 - Marco De Bartoli (0.5l)

The Passito di Pantelleria DOC “Bukkuram Padre della Vigna” 2021 - Marco De Bartoli (0.5l) is a naturally sweet wine, the quintessential symbol of the island of Pantelleria. Made from Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria) grapes, it represents the most authentic expression of Mediterranean passito. With an alcohol content of approximately 14.5% vol., it is a fortified wine in the noblest sense of the term: rich, complex, and with great persistence, but without artificial alcohol fortification.

Vintage Details

The 2021 vintage is distinguished by a balanced climate and a manual harvest conducted between late August and early September. Half of the grapes are left to ripen on the vine, while the other half are naturally dried in the sun for about four weeks. This dual harvesting method gives the wine extraordinary aromatic concentration and an ideal balance between sweetness and freshness.

Winemaking and Aging

The winemaking of "Bukkuram Padre della Vigna" follows the most authentic Pantelleria tradition. After fermentation, the dried grapes are added to the fermenting must, enriching it with natural sugars and aromas, without resorting to alcohol fortification. Aging extends for approximately 42 months in French oak barrels, followed by a period of further rest in the bottle. This long aging gives the wine complexity, softness, and an extraordinary depth of flavor.

Tasting Notes

Color

It presents an intense and brilliant amber color, enriched with golden reflections that anticipate its aromatic richness.

Nose

On the nose, the aromatic profile is enveloping and complex: notes of dried apricot, figs, honey, dates, and candied orange peel are recognized, accompanied by spicy nuances and slight hints of vanilla and hazelnut derived from aging in wood.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is enveloping and velvety. The natural sweetness blends with a lively acidity that ensures its pleasantness and invites another sip. The finish is long and persistent, with delicate hints of dried fruit and citrus.

  • Dark chocolate or spiced desserts for a bolder pairing
Served slightly chilled (12–14°C), it best expresses its intensity and harmony.

Storage and Aging
