What kind of wine is Franciacorta Brut Satèn DOCG Magnum - Ca' de Pazzi

The Franciacorta Brut Satèn DOCG Magnum - Ca' de Pazzi is a Classic Method sparkling wine, meaning that the second fermentation – the one that creates the bubbles – takes place directly in the bottle, as is traditional for the best Franciacorta wines. It originates in the heart of Franciacorta, a hilly area in the province of Brescia, famous for its calcareous soils and the microclimate influenced by Lake Iseo. The "Satèn" style is a unique Franciacorta characteristic: it indicates an exclusively white sparkling wine, made from Chardonnay grapes (sometimes with small percentages of Pinot Blanc) and characterized by lower pressure compared to other Franciacorta wines, which gives it a finer and more velvety bubble and a soft sensation on the palate.

Vintage details

The harvest for this Franciacorta Brut Satèn DOCG Magnum - Ca' de Pazzi is done by hand, at the full maturity of the Chardonnay grapes, generally between late August and early September. The climatic conditions of the vintage were favorable, with warm days and cool nights, ideal for preserving the fragrant acidity and aromatic finesse of the fruit.

Winemaking and aging

The free-run must, obtained from a soft pressing of the grapes, ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, to maintain the original aromas of the Chardonnay. The secondary fermentation (the second fermentation) takes place in the bottle according to the Classic Method. The wine remains in contact with the yeasts for at least 24 months, during which it develops aromatic complexity and an elegant mousse. After disgorgement – the removal of the yeasts – the wine rests for a few more months before being released for sale, to achieve perfect balance.

Tasting notes

The Franciacorta Brut Satèn DOCG Magnum - Ca' de Pazzi captivates at first glance and then reveals itself to be surprisingly harmonious and refined on tasting.

Colour

Bright straw yellow with golden reflections and a fine, continuous perlage, which hints at the quality of the Classic Method.

Nose

The nose opens with delicate notes of white flowers and yellow-fleshed fruit, such as peach and pear, enriched by nuances of bread crust and toasted almond. The olfactory profile is elegant and enveloping, with a touch of minerality that adds depth.

Palate

On the palate, it is fresh, creamy, and well-balanced. The low pressure typical of Satèn provides a fine and silky mousse, while the lively acidity of the Chardonnay ensures momentum and pleasantness. The finish is long, clean, with a pleasant citrus persistence.

Food pairings with Franciacorta Brut Satèn DOCG Magnum - Ca' de Pazzi

Perfect as an elegant aperitif, it pairs beautifully with delicate dishes that enhance its softness and balance:
  • fish and shellfish appetizers,
  • risottos with vegetables or seafood,
  • white meats and fresh cheese dishes,
  • sushi and light oriental cuisine.
The Magnum version is ideal for convivial occasions, as the slower evolution in the bottle offers an even more harmonious and complex wine.

Storage and aging – how to store Franciacorta Brut Satèn DOCG Magnum - Ca' de Pazzi

This sparkling wine is meant to be enjoyed in its youthful prime, when its freshness and creaminess are most evident. It is recommended to consume it within 2-3 years of disgorgement. To store it best:
  • keep it in a dark, cool place without temperature fluctuations (around 12 °C),
  • store it horizontally to keep the cork moist,
  • avoid vibrations or direct light, which could compromise the wine's quality.
This way, the Franciacorta Brut Satèn DOCG Magnum - Ca' de Pazzi will retain all its elegance and its unmistakable balance of softness and freshness.
