What kind of wine is Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru “Lydien N° 80” - Stéphane Regnault?

The Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru “Lydien N° 80” - Stéphane Regnault is a rare label, produced in a limited edition of only 2650 bottles. It originates in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, in Champagne, from old vines over 50 years old cultivated on exceptionally chalky soils, capable of imparting unmistakable freshness and mineral purity. Stéphane Regnault, an independent and innovative winemaker, crafts each cuvée as a work of art, interpreting the terroir of Mesnil-sur-Oger with an artisanal approach that respects nature. Like every true Champagne, "Lydien N° 80" is also produced using the Champenoise method, also known as the traditional method: a process that involves a second fermentation in the bottle to create fine and persistent bubbles, while maintaining the typical structure and elegance of the best Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru.

Vintage Details

The Chardonnay grapes come from a vintage characterized by balanced climatic conditions, with a slow and constant maturation that allowed the preservation of acidity and complex aromas. The over fifty-year-old vines, thanks to their deep roots in the chalky soils, produced concentrated and naturally balanced bunches, enhancing the mineral purity of the wine.

Winemaking and Aging

The Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru “Lydien N° 80” - Stéphane Regnault is vinified using the traditional method, which involves re-fermentation in the bottle and a long aging on the lees for over 30 months. This period imparts aromatic complexity and very fine bubbles. The Extra Brut dosage (between 0 and 6 g/l of sugar) enhances the freshness and natural elegance of Chardonnay, without adding superfluous sweetness.

Tasting Notes

Color

In the glass, it presents a bright straw yellow, with golden reflections and a fine, continuous, and very elegant perlage.

Nose

The nose opens with notes of citrus, white flowers, and toasted hazelnut. Mineral hints and nuances of bread crust then emerge, typical of aging on the lees, revealing the depth and purity of the Grand Cru terroir.

Taste

On the palate, it is vibrant and refined, with a perfect balance between freshness and savoriness. The creamy texture and subtle perlage accompany a long and mineral finish, with great cleanliness and precision. A Champagne that captivates with harmony and character, ideal for both connoisseurs and those who wish to discover an authentic and modern style.
