What kind of wine is Barbaresco DOCG “Gallina” 2021 - Castello di Neive?
The Barbaresco DOCG “Gallina” 2021 - Castello di Neive is a red Piedmontese wine of great elegance and personality, produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, the symbolic varietal of the Langhe. Coming from the renowned "Gallina" cru, one of the most highly-regarded in the appellation, this wine exquisitely expresses the essence of the Neive territory. It is a structured yet balanced red, where aromatic depth and gustatory harmony meet in perfect equilibrium.Details of the Vintage
The 2021 vintage was characterized by regular and favorable weather conditions for Nebbiolo ripening. The mild spring and dry summer allowed the grapes to reach an ideal concentration, resulting in a wine with intense aromatics and fine tannins. The outcome is a Barbaresco DOCG that combines freshness and structure, already showing great elegance today, but with the potential for evolution over time.Winemaking and Aging
Selected Nebbiolo grapes are destemmed and fermented in steel tanks with a maceration period of about two weeks, during which the must remains in contact with the skins to extract color, aromas, and tannins. This is followed by a 12-month aging period in wooden barrels, which softens the tannins and enriches the bouquet, and an additional 6 months in bottle to achieve perfect balance before release.Tasting Notes
The Barbaresco DOCG “Gallina” 2021 - Castello di Neive is a wine that captivates with its complexity and refinement, offering different sensations with each taste.Color
It presents a luminous garnet red, with slight orange reflections typical of Nebbiolo undergoing aging. Its clarity and brilliance anticipate its elegance on the palate.Nose
On the nose, it offers a fine and layered bouquet: aromas of ripe red fruits, such as cherry and raspberry, intertwine with floral notes of rose and violet, and subtle spicy nuances of licorice and sweet tobacco, due to its time in wood.Palate
On the palate, it is harmonious and enveloping. The body is full yet balanced, the tannins silky and well-integrated, demonstrating careful winemaking. The finish is long and refined, with hints of fruit and a balsamic note at the end.Food Pairings for Barbaresco DOCG “Gallina” 2021 - Castello di Neive
