What kind of wine is Veronese Rosso IGT “Campofiorin” 2021 + “Campofiorin” 2022 - Masi (wooden box)

The Veronese Rosso IGT “Campofiorin” 2021 + “Campofiorin” 2022 - Masi (wooden box) is the modern evolution of Valpolicella's winemaking tradition. Born in 1964 from an intuition of the Masi winery, this wine represents a meeting point between elegance and structure, made with a typical blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara. The result is a well-balanced red wine, full-bodied yet velvety, capable of expressing the richness of the Veronese territory in two excellent vintages enclosed in a single, precious wooden box.

Vintage Details

The 2021 and 2022 vintages are characterized by favorable climatic conditions, able to enhance the peculiarities of the grape variety. The 2021 harvest was characterized by a balanced summer and slow, complete grape ripening, which gave the wine aromatic complexity and freshness. The 2022 harvest, on the other hand, warmer and drier, yielded a Campofiorin with a more mature and rounded profile, with greater fruity intensity.

Winemaking and aging

The winemaking process of Veronese Rosso IGT “Campofiorin” follows Masi's revisited “ripasso” technique: the wine, obtained from fresh grapes, is refermented with about 25% of semi-dried grapes from the same harvest. The drying, which lasts about six weeks, intensifies color, structure, and aromatic complexity. The refermentation lasts about fifteen days at controlled temperatures (18-20°C), followed by malolactic fermentation, which softens the wine and rounds out its tannins. This is followed by an aging of approximately 18 months in Allier and Slavonian oak barrels, which adds spicy notes and greater taste depth.

Tasting Notes

A wine that captivates with its harmony and its ability to combine tradition and modernity, while maintaining a consistently recognizable style.

Color

Visually, the Veronese Rosso IGT “Campofiorin” 2021 + “Campofiorin” 2022 - Masi presents an intense and brilliant ruby red, with garnet reflections that anticipate its evolution in the bottle.

Nose

The aroma is complex and enveloping. Notes of ripe cherry, plum, and berries stand out, accompanied by elegant hints of sweet spices, vanilla, and cocoa, testament to the wood aging. The two vintages offer a pleasant alternation between freshness and aromatic warmth.

Taste

On the palate it is full, soft, and persistent. The tannins – the substances responsible for the slight astringency sensation – are silky and well integrated, while the structure is balanced by good acidity that keeps the sip lively. Long finish, with fruity and spicy returns that invite another taste.

What dishes to pair with Veronese Rosso IGT “Campofiorin” 2021 + “Campofiorin” 2022 - Masi (wooden box)

Versatile and pleasantly gastronomic, Campofiorin pairs well with many traditional Italian dishes. Perfect for dinner with friends or as a gift with a guaranteed impact, it elegantly accompanies:

  • Grilled or braised red meats
  • Pasta dishes with ragu or rich sauces
  • Aged and flavorful cheeses
  • Legume soups or mushroom-based dishes

Also excellent to enjoy on its own, as a meditation wine, especially in the double vintage format which allows appreciating its evolution over time.

Storage and aging: how to store Veronese Rosso IGT “Campofiorin” 2021 + “Campofiorin” 2022 - Masi (wooden box) wine

To best preserve the qualities of Campofiorin, it is advisable to store it in a cool, dark place with a constant temperature between 12 and 16°C. The bottles should be kept horizontally, so that the cork remains moist, ensuring a perfect seal. This is a wine with excellent aging potential: it can evolve for several years thanks to its balanced structure and the presence of soft but well-present tannins. Over time, it will develop more complex aromas and tertiary nuances, making every tasting a discovery.
