What kind of wine is Valtellina Superiore Sassella Riserva DOCG 2019 - Aldo Rainoldi
The Valtellina Superiore Sassella Riserva DOCG 2019 - Aldo Rainoldi is an elegant and structured mountain red wine, made from Nebbiolo grapes (locally called Chiavennasca) grown on the terraces of Sondrio and Castione Andevenno. The iron-rich rocky soil and the altitude of the vineyards give the grapes a natural minerality and extraordinary aromatic complexity. It is a medium-to-full-bodied wine, harmonious and balanced, capable of expressing the quintessence of Valtellina: tradition, elegance, and longevity.Vintage details
The 2019 vintage was characterized by a regular climatic trend, with warm but not excessive summers and a dry autumn, ideal for the ripening of Nebbiolo. The grapes, harvested strictly by hand, achieved a perfect balance between sugars, acidity, and phenolic ripeness, ensuring an intense aromatic profile and soft but well-present tannins.Winemaking and aging
After manual harvesting, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, followed by a maceration of several weeks to extract colors and aromas from the skins. Subsequently, the wine ages for approximately 24 months in oak barrels, where it acquires complexity and roundness, then rests in the bottle for at least one year before sale. This long maturation process gives the wine balance and depth, making it ready to drink but also capable of further evolving over time.Tasting notes
