What kind of wine is Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Extra Dry 'Giall’Oro' - Ruggeri

The Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Extra Dry 'Giall’Oro' - Ruggeri is a sparkling wine made with the Charmat Method (or Martinotti method), a re-fermentation process in an autoclave that best preserves the freshness and aromatic fragrance of the Glera grapes. It originates on the gentle hills of Valdobbiadene, the heart of the Prosecco Superiore DOCG appellation, where the combination of altitude, exposure, and mineral soils yields sparkling wines of great elegance. The Extra Dry style, corresponding to a slightly higher sugar dosage than Brut, provides balance, softness, and immediate pleasantness on the palate.

Vintage Details

The grapes are harvested manually during the grape harvest, which in this area takes place between the end of September and the beginning of October. The typical climatic conditions of the Valdobbiadene hills — with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night — favor optimal ripening, preserving floral aromas and a pronounced natural acidity.

Winemaking and aging

After a soft pressing of the bunches, the free-run must ferments at a controlled temperature to enhance the delicate varietal aromas of the Glera grape. The secondary fermentation takes place in an autoclave according to the Charmat Method for about 30–40 days. This process allows the characteristic fine and persistent perlage to be maintained and gives the wine a creamy and harmonious texture. After bottling, the wine rests for a few weeks before being released for sale, ensuring maximum freshness and balance between aromatic and sweet notes.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Brilliant straw yellow with golden reflections, crossed by a fine and continuous perlage that enhances its visual vibrancy.

Nose

The bouquet is intense and immediate, with hints of white flowers, green apple, and pear, followed by elegant notes of citrus and a hint of sweet hay. The aromatic freshness is the distinguishing element of this Prosecco, which communicates fragrance and pleasantness with every sip.

Taste

On the palate, it is soft, balanced, and fresh. The lively acidity balances the sweet roundness typical of the Extra Dry style, leaving a sensation of cleanliness and harmony. The finish is fruity and slightly mineral, with excellent persistence that invites a second glass.
