What kind of wine is Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva DOC 'Binomio' 2021 - Fattoria La Valentina

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva DOC 'Binomio' 2021 - Fattoria La Valentina is a red wine of great personality, born from a shared project between two symbolic Italian wine realities: Fattoria La Valentina and Azienda Agricola Inama. This 100% Montepulciano offers a contemporary interpretation of the richness of the Abruzzese grape variety, combining power and harmony in an elegant and enveloping sip.

The term “Binomio” evokes the union of two visions: that of a modern wine, soft and immediately enjoyable, but also capable of evolving over time. The 2021 vintage represents one of the most authentic and balanced expressions of this philosophy, the result of careful viticulture that respects the territory.

Vintage Details

2021 was a balanced vintage, characterized by a stable climate favorable to the slow and complete ripening of the grapes. The day-night temperature excursions in the vineyards of San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore, at the foot of the Majella National Park, favored the aromatic and tannic concentration of Montepulciano, yielding a deep and refined wine.

The manual harvesting of the grapes, carried out in the first weeks of October, allowed for the selection of only the best bunches, fundamental for obtaining the richness and balance that distinguish this wine.

Winemaking and aging

After destemming and a long maceration on the skins – that is, the contact of the must with the skins to extract color, tannins, and aromas – the must ferments in steel at a controlled temperature. This is followed by aging in oak barrels for about 18 months, which allows the wine to develop body and complexity, and then a period of rest in the bottle to complete its harmonization.

The result is a red with a modern profile but deeply rooted in the tradition of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.

Tasting Notes

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva DOC 'Binomio' 2021 - Fattoria La Valentina expresses itself with intensity and consistency, offering a complete and exciting tasting experience.

Color

Dense ruby red with slight garnet hues. A deep hue that anticipates the structure and complexity of the wine.

Nose

On the nose, it releases clear aromas of ripe red fruits – cherry, plum, and blackberry – accompanied by spicy notes of black pepper, licorice, and a hint of balsamic. The aging in wood enriches the bouquet with nuances of chocolate and vanilla without overpowering the fruity component.

Palate

On the palate, it is full and harmonious, with velvety tannins and a substantial yet balanced body. The sustained structure meets a freshness that gives rhythm and drinkability. The finish is long, with an elegant lingering taste of dark fruit and sweet spices.
