What kind of wine is Langhe Nebbiolo DOC 2023 - Sottimano?

The Langhe Nebbiolo DOC 2023 - Sottimano is born in the heart of the Langhe, in Neive, one of the symbolic municipalities of this denomination. It is produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, a noble Piedmontese varietal that also gives life to the famous Barolo and Barbaresco. In this younger and more immediate version, it retains all the finesse of Nebbiolo, but with a fresher and more approachable character. Its elegant and harmonious profile makes it a versatile red, enjoyable for those beginning to explore the world of Piedmontese wines, as well as for enthusiasts seeking authenticity and territorial expression.

Vintage details

The 2023 vintage in the Langhe was balanced and of excellent quality. After a mild spring and a regular summer, the grapes reached perfect phenolic ripeness, while maintaining good natural acidity. The grapes harvested in the Basarin cru of Neive expressed a Nebbiolo with a fragrant and clean profile, with fine and mature tannins. A vintage that promises harmonious wines, with a good balance between power and elegance.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes are vinified using traditional methods, respecting the integrity of the fruit. Spontaneous fermentation, without selected yeasts, takes place in steel tanks with a long maceration of about 20 days on the skins, to naturally extract color, aromas, and tannins. Aging takes place in French oak barriques for 14-16 months, about 15% of which are new: a choice that allows the structure to be rounded without covering the varietal character of the Nebbiolo.

Tasting Notes

Color: The Langhe Nebbiolo DOC 2023 - Sottimano presents a clear and luminous light ruby red color, with delicate garnet nuances, typical of the grape variety. Its transparency is synonymous with finesse and an elegant style.

Nose: On the nose, it is complex and refined: aromas of small red fruits like raspberry and currant emerge, followed by floral hints of rose and violet. Over time, spicy notes and light woody nuances, perfectly integrated, are revealed.

Palate: On the palate, it is balanced and harmonious. The tannins, dense but already polished, support a solid and fine structure. The lively freshness keeps the sip dynamic, with a long and pleasantly fruity persistence. It is a Nebbiolo with an elegant profile, ready to drink but capable of evolving over time.

Food pairings for Langhe Nebbiolo DOC 2023 - Sottimano

This wine lends itself to numerous gastronomic pairings, thanks to its balance and the typical freshness of young Nebbiolo. Perfect with:
  • Typical Piedmontese appetizers such as vitello tonnato or hand-chopped raw meat
  • First courses with meat or mushroom sauces, especially tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms
  • Light white or red meats, such as roasts and stews that are not too rich
  • Medium-aged cheeses, which enhance its elegant tannins
A wine to bring to the table even with homemade dishes, where it always finds its balance.

Storage and aging: how to store Langhe Nebbiolo DOC 2023 - Sottimano wine

To fully enjoy its characteristics, the Langhe Nebbiolo DOC 2023 - Sottimano should be stored in a cool, dark place with a constant temperature of around 12-14°C. The bottle should be kept horizontally, so that the cork remains in contact with the wine, preventing air infiltration. Although it is a pleasant wine to drink when young, it can evolve in the bottle for 5-6 years, developing more complex aromas and an even softer texture. A wine that promises genuine emotions, year after year.
