What kind of wine is Barolo Chinato DOCG - G.D. Vajra (boxed)
Barolo Chinato DOCG - G.D. Vajra (boxed) is a Piedmontese liqueur wine with a unique character, made from the prestigious Barolo DOCG, to which spices and aromatic herbs are added according to a traditional recipe. It is an aromatized and fortified wine, with a higher alcohol content than traditional red wines (around 16.5% vol.), which brings it closer in structure and intensity to great liqueur wines such as Port or Marsala. It originated as a meditation wine but surprises with its versatility and its ability to combine elegance and aromatic complexity.Vintage details
The Barolo Chinato by G.D. Vajra is made from Nebbiolo grapes used for Barolo "Albe," a cuvée that best reflects the hilly soul of the Langhe. The harvest is done by hand, selecting healthy and ripe bunches to ensure a pure and intense base on which to build the infusion of herbs and spices. The result is an aromatic wine with a perfect balance between the power of Barolo and the bittersweet nuances of the infusions.Winemaking and aging
The base of Barolo Chinato DOCG - G.D. Vajra (boxed) is a Barolo "Albe" which, after aging in barrel, is enriched with a natural infusion of cinchona bark, orange peels, cloves, and other secret spices. The "chinatura," or the fortification of the wine with aromas and cane sugar, gives structure, softness, and longevity to the product. This is followed by a further period of rest in wood and bottle, which harmonizes its components and intensifies its aromatic complexity.Tasting notes

It appears in the glass with an intense garnet red with amber reflections, a sign of its aging and its liqueur structure. The clarity and density of the color invite tasting.Nose
On the nose, it is complex and enveloping: notes of chincona, bitter orange, cinnamon, and cloves stand out, followed by balsamic hints and touches of rhubarb. The sweet spices blend with the austere character of Nebbiolo, creating an elegant and irresistible bouquet.Palate
On the palate, it is warm and velvety, with a perfect balance between sweetness and a refreshing bitter note. The finish is very long, with an aromatic persistence that recalls medicinal herbs and cocoa. It is an enveloping wine, designed for meditation but also perfect as the conclusion to an important meal. What dishes to pair with Barolo Chinato DOCG - G.D. Vajra (boxed)
