What kind of wine is Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC 2022 - G.D. Vajra
Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC 2022 - G.D. Vajra is a Piedmontese red wine of great character, produced by one of the most esteemed names in the Langhe. It is made from Barbera grapes grown in the historic crus of Bricco delle Viole and Bricco Bertone, two vineyards that combine different altitudes, exposures, and soils to offer a rare aromatic complexity. This is a Barbera "that baroleggia": a full-bodied, deep, and harmonious wine, capable of combining the vivacity of the grape with the structure of a great red for aging.Vintage Details
The 2022 vintage was characterized by a balanced climate, with warm but breezy days and cool nights, ideal for preserving fragrance and acidity. The harvest, carried out by hand in the second half of September, provided perfectly ripe and healthy grapes. These conditions allowed for an intense, balanced Barbera with great aromatic concentration.Winemaking and aging
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with a maceration — i.e., the contact between the must and the skins to extract color and aromas — of about 15-20 days. Subsequently, the wine ages for about ten months in large oak barrels, where it evolves without losing freshness. This aging in wood helps to soften the natural acidity of the grape, imparting complexity and depth.Tasting notes
The sensory profile of Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC 2022 - G.D. Vajra is refined and enveloping, ideal for those seeking a structured yet elegant wine.Color
Intense ruby red with purplish hues, indicating youth and vitality. The brilliance of the color anticipates the freshness and liveliness of the sip.Nose
The nose opens with notes of ripe cherry, plum, and small red fruits, followed by spicy touches and a floral hint of violet. With aeration, nuances of sweet tobacco and vanilla emerge, due to aging in large wood.Taste
On the palate, it is full, juicy, and balanced. The tannins are fine and well integrated, while the acidity — typical of Barbera — gives momentum and persistence. The finish is long, harmonious, and with a pleasant fruity and spicy return. What dishes to pair with Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC 2022 - G.D. Vajra
This wine pairs perfectly with savory traditional Piedmontese and Italian dishes. Its fresh notes and enveloping structure make it extremely versatile. Ideal with:- Tagliatelle with meat or mushroom ragu
- Braised and stewed beef or veal

Storage and aging: how to store Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC 2022 - G.D. Vajra
To best preserve the qualities of this wine, it is advisable to store it in a cool, dark place with a constant temperature of around 14-16°C, away from sources of heat or direct light. The bottle should preferably be kept in a horizontal position, so that the cork remains moist and ensures a perfect seal. Thanks to its structure and balanced acidity, this Barbera can evolve beautifully over time: its aging potential exceeds 10 years, during which it will develop more complex and nuanced notes, while maintaining its elegance and the typical vivacity of the grape.G.D.
