What kind of wine is Barbera d'Alba DOC Superiore 'Gallina' 2022 - La Spinetta?

The Barbera d'Alba DOC Superiore 'Gallina' 2022 - La Spinetta is an elegant and harmonious Piedmontese red wine, an authentic expression of the hills of Neive, in the heart of the Langhe. Made from 100% Barbera grapes, this wine reveals all the intensity of the varietal with an ideal balance of freshness, structure, and pleasant drinkability. It is one of La Spinetta winery's most representative labels, thanks to its ability to combine tradition and contemporary style.

Vintage Details

The 2022 vintage was characterized by regular climatic conditions, with a warm summer balanced by adequate water reserves in the soil. The harvest, which took place manually between late September and early October, ensured grapes of excellent ripeness, healthy and rich in aromatic substances. The result is a wine with great aromatic concentration, balanced and immediately enjoyable, but with interesting aging potential.

Winemaking and Aging

The vinification of Barbera d'Alba DOC Superiore 'Gallina' 2022 - La Spinetta takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, followed by malolactic fermentation, which is the transformation of malic acid into lactic acid, softening the wine's taste profile. Aging continues for 18 months in second and third-passage French oak barrels, a wood that imparts roundness and complexity without overpowering the fruit. Maturation is completed by an additional 12-month rest in the bottle before release.

Tasting Notes

Visually, it presents an intense ruby red with violet reflections, clear and brilliant, a sign of youth and careful winemaking.

Palate

On the palate, it stands out for the typical freshness of the Barbera grape, well-balanced by a full structure and fine, velvety tannins. The sip is harmonious, long, and persistent, with a fruity and mineral finish that invites another taste.
