What kind of wine is Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG “Villa Cigliano” 2021 - Antinori (wooden box)
The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG “Villa Cigliano” 2021 - Antinori is an elegant Tuscan red wine, a perfect synthesis of tradition and innovation. It originates in the historic Chianti Classico area, in the territory of San Casciano in Val di Pesa, where the Antinori family has cultivated the region's emblematic grape variety, Sangiovese, for centuries. This wine represents one of the most refined expressions of the "Gran Selezione" denomination, the highest category of Chianti Classico DOCG, reserved only for wines made from grapes from owned vineyards and aged for a minimum of 30 months. Full-bodied and well-structured, “Villa Cigliano” impresses with its harmony, intensity, and depth of flavour. Each bottle, presented in a wooden box, tells the story and centuries-old passion with which the Antinori family creates wines of excellence.Vintage Details
The 2021 vintage in Chianti Classico was characterized by balanced weather conditions: a mild winter, a regular spring, and a dry but not scorching summer. The diurnal temperature variations favoured optimal grape ripening, preserving aromatic freshness and phenolic concentration. The result was a wine with a decisive character, broad aromas, and an excellent balance between structure and acidity.Winemaking and Aging
After manual harvesting, the grapes are selected and fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, with maceration on the skins for about 15-20 days to extract colour and tannins. Aging continues for several months in oak barrels, where the wine acquires complexity, softness, and a finer texture. A further period of rest in the bottle completes the process, providing greater balance and flavour harmony.Tasting Notes
Colour
Visually, it presents a deep ruby red with garnet reflections, indicative of the concentration and evolution of high-quality Sangiovese.Nose
The aromatic profile combines elegance and intensity: notes of ripe cherry, plum, and blackberry blend with hints of sweet spices, tobacco, and a delicate toasted undertone. The bouquet evolves in the glass, progressively revealing the typical finesse of great Chianti Classico Gran Selezione wines.Palate
On the palate, it is full-bodied and enveloping. The tannins (natural substances that provide structure and a pleasant dry sensation) are refined and well-integrated. Freshness supports the flavour progression, while the finish is long, with fruity notes and subtle balsamic hints.Food Pairings for Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG “Villa Cigliano” 2021 - Antinori (wooden box)
