What kind of wine is Marsala Superiore Ambra Dolce DOC 'Garibaldi' - Cantine Pellegrino 1880 (tin tube)

The Marsala Superiore Ambra Dolce DOC 'Garibaldi' from Cantine Pellegrino 1880 is a fortified wine, a symbol of Sicily and Marsala's winemaking tradition. It is a Marsala Superiore Dolce, one of the most prized expressions of this historic fortified wine, appreciated worldwide for its intensity and harmony. With an alcohol content of around 18% vol, it perfectly expresses the warm and enveloping character typical of this style. The edition in a tin tube also makes it an elegant gift idea.

Vintage details

Produced from selected Grillo, Catarratto and Inzolia grapes grown in the areas of Agro di Marsala and Mazara del Vallo, Marsala 'Garibaldi' tells the story of a sunny and generous Sicily. The harvest takes place when the grapes reach full aromatic ripeness, ensuring a natural concentration of sugars and aromas. The vintage style favors balance and sweetness, with a velvety and intense profile.

Winemaking and aging

Winemaking takes place at a controlled temperature to preserve the freshness and finesse of the original grapes. Fermentation is stopped by adding neutral alcohol, a typical fortification process, which retains part of the must's natural sugars. This is followed by the addition of cooked must, which gives the wine its characteristic amber color and caramel notes. Aging continues for at least two years in oak barrels, where the wine acquires complexity and softness.

Tasting notes

The Marsala Superiore Ambra Dolce DOC 'Garibaldi' seduces with its aromatic richness and the perfect balance between sweetness, warmth, and structure.

Color

Visually, it presents a warm amber color with golden reflections, clear and brilliant. This intense tone derives from the addition of cooked must and prolonged contact with wood.

Nose

On the nose, a complex and enveloping bouquet emerges, with notes of honey, dried fruit, dates, and caramel, accompanied by delicate hints of vanilla and sweet wood. The aroma is typically Mediterranean and distinctly elegant.

Taste

On the palate, it is soft, round, and velvety. The sweetness is well balanced by the alcohol and a hint of marine savoriness, offering length and finesse. The finish is persistent, with notes of toasted almond and candied orange peel.
