What kind of wine is Gattinara DOCG 2022 Magnum - Travaglini (wooden box)
The Gattinara DOCG 2022 Magnum - Travaglini (wooden box) is a superb Piedmontese red wine, produced from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, a varietal that in this area of northern Piedmont yields elegant, complex, and mineral-driven expressions. It is a full-bodied and harmonious wine, capable of expressing the territory with every sip. The Magnum version, 1.5 liters, enhances its aging potential and makes it ideal for important occasions or as a prestigious gift idea, thanks also to its refined wooden box.Vintage details
The 2022 vintage in Alto Piemonte was characterized by a balanced climate: warm but not excessive days and cool nights favored a slow and complete ripening of the grapes. The Nebbiolo grapes destined for Gattinara Travaglini thus achieved perfect aromatic concentration and well-ripened tannins, while maintaining a pleasant freshness that gives liveliness to the wine.Winemaking and aging
After harvesting, the grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks with a maceration of about 10-15 days, at a controlled temperature, to extract aromas and color in a balanced way. This is followed by a long aging period of three years: two years in Slavonian oak barrels, which round out the structure and integrate the tannins, and an additional year in bottle, to harmonize the bouquet and make the wine ready for tasting. The result is a Gattinara of great complexity, finesse, and longevity.Tasting notes
Color
Gattinara DOCG 2022 Magnum - Travaglini presents an intense garnet red, luminous and transparent, with slight orange hues that anticipate its noble evolution.Nose
On the nose, it expresses a refined and deep profile: notes of ripe red fruits, such as cherry and raspberry, emerge, blending with floral hints of violet and spicy nuances of black pepper, cinnamon, and slight mineral traces typical of the Gattinara soils.Taste
On the palate, it is structured and harmonious. The tannins—those slightly astringent sensations typical of long-aged red wines—are elegant and perfectly integrated. The lively freshness balances the power of the sip, while the persistence is long and pleasant, with recurring notes of fruit and spices that invite another taste.Food pairings for Gattinara DOCG 2022 Magnum - Travaglini (wooden box)
This Gattinara pairs wonderfully with flavorful and structured dishes. Recommended pairings include:- Roasted or grilled red meats
- Braised and stewed dishes typical of Piedmont
- Aged cheeses, such as Castelmagno or Parmigiano Reggiano
- Game dishes, such as hare or roe deer
Storage and aging (how to store Gattinara DOCG 2022 Magnum - Travaglini (wooden box) wine)
To preserve the qualities of this great Piedmontese red, it is advisable to store it in a cool place free from thermal fluctuations, with a constant temperature around 14-16°C. The bottle should be kept lying down, so that the cork remains moist, and away from direct light sources. Thanks to the Magnum format and the quality of the vintage, the Gattinara DOCG 2022 Travaglini offers significant aging potential: it can evolve for over 10 years, developing increasingly complex aromas and extraordinary smoothness over time. Therefore, it is perfect for those who wish to enrich their cellar with a wine capable of growing over time.Travaglini
