What kind of wine is Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG “Vigna del Sorbo” 2020 - Fontodi
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG “Vigna del Sorbo” 2020 - Fontodi is one of the highest expressions of Sangiovese produced in the heart of Panzano in Chianti, in the famous Conca d’Oro, an area renowned for the quality of its vineyards. Made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, it best represents the production philosophy of the Manetti family, which has always been oriented towards organic and environmentally respectful agriculture. This wine impresses with its elegant structure, incredible balance, and ability to combine aromatic intensity and finesse. It is a full-bodied, profound Chianti Classico that tells the authentic identity of the Tuscan hills in every sip.Vintage Details
The 2020 vintage was characterized by balanced climatic conditions: a mild winter, a regular spring, and a warm but not excessive summer, with good temperature variations between day and night. These conditions favored optimal grape ripening, giving "Vigna del Sorbo" an intense aromatic profile and a silky tannic texture. The harvest was carried out manually at the end of September, with a careful selection of the best bunches.Vinification and aging
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts, to best preserve the varietal characteristics of Sangiovese. Maceration on the skins lasts about 3 weeks, allowing a balanced extraction of colors, aromas, and tannins. This is followed by a long aging period of about 24 months in French oak barriques, partly new and partly second-passage, which enrich the wine with complexity without masking its character. Before release, the wine rests further in the bottle for several months, achieving a perfect balance.Tasting Notes
