What kind of wine is Chianti Classico DOCG 'Casa di Colombo' 2019 - Tenuta La Novella?
The Chianti Classico DOCG 'Casa di Colombo' 2019 - Tenuta La Novella is a Tuscan red wine that embodies the authentic soul of the Chianti territory. It is mainly made from Sangiovese grapes, the emblematic varietal of this denomination, with a small addition of Merlot which contributes softness and roundness to the blend. The vines grow in the Sughera vineyard, located at about 550 meters above sea level, an altitude that favors thermal excursions and gives the wine a pleasant freshness and a particularly fine aromatic profile. The result is an elegantly structured red, with a medium body, which expresses both intensity and drinkability typical of high-altitude wines.Vintage details
The 2019 vintage is considered one of the best in recent years in Chianti Classico. The harvest was done by hand, in a period perfectly balanced between sugar ripeness and acidity. Favorable climatic conditions – with sunny days and cool nights – allowed for healthy and concentrated grapes, capable of producing a harmonious, deep, and long-lived wine.Vinification and aging
After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and ferment spontaneously thanks to the indigenous yeasts present on the skins. Maceration, the contact of the must with the skins, lasts several weeks, in order to extract color, aromas, and a balanced tannic structure. Aging takes place for about 12 months in large 30 hl sandstone and concrete vats, materials that favor natural micro-oxygenation, enhancing the purity of the fruit without overpowering it with wood aromas. This is followed by a further 6 months of bottle aging, necessary to round out and harmonize the taste profile.Tasting notes
Color
The Chianti Classico DOCG 'Casa di Colombo' 2019 presents an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections, a sign of its natural evolution but still full of vitality.Nose
On the nose, it reveals clear and complex aromas: ripe red fruits, cherry and plum blend with floral notes of violet and a balsamic hint. Light earthy and mineral hints reflect the mountainous origin of the vineyards, lending authenticity and recognizability.Taste
On the palate, it is balanced and harmonious. The sip is lively, supported by good acidity that makes it dynamic and flowing. The tannins – the natural substances that give the wine an astringent sensation – are present but silky, well integrated into the structure. The aromatic persistence is long, with an elegant finish of red fruits and light spices. What dishes to pair with Chianti Classico DOCG 'Casa di Colombo' 2019 - Tenuta La Novella
