What kind of wine is Champagne Extra Brut “Partition” 2018 - J-M Sélèque

Champagne Extra Brut “Partition” 2018 - J-M Sélèque is one of the most refined expressions from the house of Jean-Marc Sélèque, an artisan producer located in Pierry, in the heart of Champagne, in the Vallée de la Marne. This wine is born from the union of seven parcels, each representative of a different terroir, like notes in a harmonic symphony, hence the name “Partition”. Made according to the Champenoise method (or "traditional method"), which involves a second fermentation in the bottle for the natural formation of bubbles, this Champagne reveals balance, authenticity, and a deeply territorial style.

Vintage Details

The 2018 vintage was considered extraordinary in Champagne: the long and sunny summer allowed perfect maturation of the grapes, with an excellent balance between sugars and acidity. The harvest took place under ideal conditions, ensuring healthy, aromatic fruit. The result is a Champagne capable of impeccably combining structure and freshness, with a full and complex aromatic profile.

Winemaking and Aging

The Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes ferment separately in wood, in seven different barriques, each from a different vineyard. After blending, the wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle according to the classic method, remaining on the lees for at least 48 months. This long aging gives the cuvée a particular creaminess and aromatic depth. The dosage is Extra Brut, with a very low sugar content, which enhances the purity and mineral tension of the wine.

Tasting Notes

Color

In the glass, it presents a brilliant golden yellow, traversed by a dense and fine chain of bubbles, a sign of elegance and long aging on the lees.

Nose

The nose opens with aromas of ripe fruit – apple, pear, and candied citrus – accompanied by notes of bread crust, hazelnut, and a hint of honey. Delicate nuances of white flowers emerge, along with a mineral touch, typical of the chalky soils of the Vallée de la Marne.

Palate

On the palate, it is vibrant, rich yet taut, with a creamy and fine effervescence that envelops the sip. The fruity component intertwines with toasted nuances and a slight chalky sensation that prolongs the finish. The finish is long, dry, and mineral, with great precision.
