What kind of wine is Champagne Extra Brut - Francis Orban

Champagne Extra Brut - Francis Orban is produced in Leuvrigny, in the heart of the Vallée de la Marne, one of the most renowned areas of French Champagne. It is a label that perfectly represents the philosophy of the Francis Orban house, founded by a family of winemakers with a long tradition behind them but now led by a young oenologist who has managed to combine respect for the territory and modernity.

Produced exclusively from 100% Pinot Meunier, this wine stands out for its elegance, structure, and personality. Made with the méthode champenoise, or traditional method, it involves a second fermentation in the bottle, responsible for the creation of the fine and persistent bubbles that characterize it.

Vintage Details

The harvest varies depending on the vintage, with grapes picked at perfect ripeness to ensure freshness and harmony. The climate of the Vallée de la Marne, with cold winters and mild springs, allows Pinot Meunier to develop intense aromas and a well-balanced roundness of taste complemented by natural acidity. The balanced weather conditions of recent vintages have favored clean wines, rich in fruity nuances and great drinkability.

Winemaking and Aging

The vinification of Champagne Extra Brut - Francis Orban follows the dictates of the traditional method: after alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks, the wine rests on its lees for about 36 months, a necessary period to develop complexity and creaminess. The dosage of only 3 g/l of sugar places it in the Extra Brut category, where the balance between freshness and fruit expression is the absolute protagonist. The result is an authentic and vibrant Champagne, with a clear character and a dry, long finish.

Tasting Notes

Color

In the glass, it appears a luminous golden yellow with straw reflections. The bubbles are fine, continuous, and perfectly integrated, a sign of careful refinement and a perlage of great finesse.

Nose

On the nose, it opens with aromas of ripe fruit – apple, pear, and peach – followed by notes of bread crust, white flowers, and a hint of toasted almond. The complexity is well-balanced and never redundant, thanks to the purity of Pinot Meunier and the contained dosage.

Taste

On the palate, it is dry, fresh, and structured. The fine bubbles caress the palate with creaminess, while the savory and mineral texture gives momentum to the sip. The finish is persistent, with an elegant fruity return and a sensation of great balance.

What dishes to pair with Champagne Extra Brut - Francis Orban

Versatile and refined, this Extra Brut Champagne elegantly accompanies an entire meal. It is ideal with:

  • seafood appetizers and raw fish
  • oysters and crustaceans
  • white meat and poultry dishes
  • fresh and medium-aged cheeses

Also perfect as a gourmet aperitif, thanks to its freshness and the delicacy of its bubbles, which enhance flavors without overpowering them.

Storage and aging: how to store Champagne Extra Brut - Francis Orban

To best preserve the quality and personality of Champagne Extra Brut - Francis Orban, it is important to follow a few simple storage rules:

  • Temperature: keep the bottle between 10 and 12°C, avoiding sudden temperature changes.
  • Light: store in a dark place, away from direct light sources that could alter the wine.
  • Position: keep the bottle lying down, so that the cork remains moist and does not lose elasticity.

If well-preserved, this Champagne can evolve elegantly for several years, developing more complex and intense notes while maintaining its original freshness.
