What kind of wine is Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 'Vigna La Casa' 2019 - Caparzo

The Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 'Vigna La Casa' 2019 - Caparzo is one of the most representative wines of the Caparzo winery and of the entire Montalcino territory. It is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes (locally called Brunello), cultivated in one of the most vocated areas of the municipality, the Montosoli slope. It is a wine of great elegance and structure, capable of combining power and finesse, typical of the best Brunello di Montalcino.

The name "Vigna La Casa" (The House Vineyard) comes from the fact that, in the past, the farm hosted the homes of the farmers who worked for the nearby Palazzo Montosoli. The first vintage dates back to 1977, and even then Caparzo showed a pioneering vision, creating one of the first Single Vineyards of Montalcino: a wine obtained from a single vineyard, designed to maximize the peculiarities of its terroir.

Vintage details

The 2019 vintage in Tuscany is remembered as balanced and particularly favorable for Brunello. After a regular winter and a mild spring, the summer was hot but without excesses, allowing for perfect ripening of the grapes. The temperature excursions between day and night enhanced the aromatic expression of Sangiovese, giving the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 'Vigna La Casa' 2019 - Caparzo remarkable complexity and an elegant profile.

Winemaking and aging

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins for about 15-20 days to extract color, aromas, and structure. Subsequently, the wine matures for several years in Slavonian oak barrels and partly in barriques, a technique that Caparzo was among the first to introduce in Montalcino, with the aim of obtaining silkier tannins and a harmonious balance between wood and fruit. The long aging in the bottle completes its evolution, making this wine ready to express all its complexity as soon as it is opened.
