What kind of wine is Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC 'Sassicaia' 2022 Magnum - Tenuta San Guido (wooden case)

The Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC 'Sassicaia' 2022 Magnum - Tenuta San Guido is an icon of Italian enology, recognized and appreciated worldwide. It originates from the historic vineyards of Tenuta San Guido, located on the hills of the Tuscan coast, among the most suitable for producing great red wines. This wine is primarily made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc, varieties that together create a Bordeaux blend of extraordinary elegance and longevity. The body is full and harmonious, supported by a fine but firm tannic structure and a perfect balance between freshness and aromatic complexity.

Vintage Details

The 2022 vintage was characterized by a balanced climate: a mild winter, a dry spring, and a warm but breezy summer, which ensured optimal grape ripening. Temperature fluctuations between day and night favored the development of intense aromas and the preservation of acidity, essential elements for an elegant, fresh wine capable of evolving over time.

Vinification and Aging

Fermentation of Sassicaia 2022 takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, to best preserve the fruit's aromas. Maceration – the contact of the must with the grape skins – lasts approximately 10 days, promoting the extraction of color and tannins. This is followed by aging for about 24 months in French oak barriques, partly new and partly second-passage, which imparts complexity and harmony. After bottling, the wine continues to mature in the bottle for several months before being released to the market.

Tasting Notes

Color

It presents a deep ruby red color with slight garnet hues, indicating its youth and great aging potential.

Nose

On the nose, an elegant and complex bouquet emerges, where notes of small ripe red fruits, blackcurrant, sweet spices, and light balsamic sensations alternate. Hints of tobacco, vanilla, and graphite enrich its aromatic profile.

Palate

On the palate, it is full and enveloping, with a fine and silky tannic texture. The sip is deep and persistent, supported by a vibrant freshness that balances the structure. The finish is long, elegant, and mineral, with a clear reference to the Bolgheri territory.
