What kind of wine is Barbera d'Asti DOCG 'Asinoi' 2023 - Carussin

The Barbera d'Asti DOCG 'Asinoi' 2023 - Carussin is one of the most sincere and authentic expressions of the Asti region, a symbol of a rural tradition that values quality and respect for nature. Produced by the Carussin winery, a family business dedicated for years to sustainable viticulture, this Barbera comes from vineyards cultivated with a limited yield, about 60 quintals per hectare, to ensure a concentrated and fragrant wine. The result is a medium-bodied red, lively and harmonious, capable of combining pleasantness and typicality.

Vintage details

The 2023 vintage was characterized by balanced weather, with a warm but not excessive season and good temperature swings between day and night, ideal conditions for the ripening of Barbera. The grapes, hand-picked in small crates, showed an excellent balance between sugars and acidity, resulting in a fresh, fragrant, and particularly smooth-drinking wine.

Winemaking and aging

After the harvest, the Barbera grapes are spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts, which are naturally present on the skins, to preserve the identity of the grape variety and the territory. Maceration on the skins lasts for a few days, sufficient to extract color and softness without making the wine heavy. Aging takes place for a few months in steel tanks, a choice that maintains the intact fruit fragrance and the typical freshness of Barbera.

Tasting notes

The Barbera d'Asti DOCG 'Asinoi' 2023 - Carussin is a young and immediate wine, but with plenty of personality.

Color

To the eye, it presents a beautiful brilliant ruby red color, with violet reflections that underline its youth and vivacity.

Nose

On the nose, it is pleasantly fruity: notes of cherry, blackberry, and plum emerge, accompanied by subtle floral nuances of violet and hints of sweet spices. A clean and inviting aromatic profile.

Taste

On the palate, the sip is fresh, smooth, and full of juice. The body is medium, the tannins are soft and well integrated, while the lively acidity – a distinctive characteristic of Barbera – gives length and great drinkability. The finish is persistent, with a pleasantly crisp fruity return.
