What kind of wine is Alto Adige Lagrein DOC 2022 - Brunnenhof?

Alto Adige Lagrein DOC 2022 - Brunnenhof is a red wine with an authentic and profound character, a typical expression of Alto Adige and the Lagrein grape, one of the most representative native varieties of the region. Cultivated near Egna, at about 250 meters above sea level, this wine comes from decades-old vines rooted in glacial soils, rich in pebbles and minerals, capable of bestowing elegance and structure on the wine. The result is a full-bodied red, soft and enveloping, capable of combining intensity and pleasantness.

Vintage Details

The 2022 vintage in Alto Adige was characterized by a balanced climate, with a regular spring and a warm but not excessive summer. The Lagrein grapes thus reached optimal ripeness, with good aromatic concentrations and perfectly ripe tannins. The harvest, carried out by hand in early October, allowed only the best bunches to be selected, maintaining excellent quality at every stage of production.

Winemaking and Aging

After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and subjected to alcoholic fermentation in large 25-hectoliter oak barrels, where the must remains in contact with the skins for about two weeks. This process, called maceration, allows for the balanced extraction of color, aromas, and tannins. This is followed by a period of aging in smaller oak barrels (5 and 7 hectoliters), which imparts aromatic complexity and rounds out the wine's structure, without masking the varietal character of the Lagrein.
